约翰·麦唐纳，全名约翰·丹恩·麦唐纳（John Dann MacDonald，1916年7月24日－1986年12月28日），美国作家。

　　约翰·麦唐纳主要撰写侦探小说和悬念小说，他的许多作品是在他的第二故乡佛罗里达完成的。他最著名的作品包括广受好评的特拉维斯·麦吉（Travis McGee）系列以及著名电影《海角惊魂》（Cape Fear，格利高里·派克主演，J·李·汤普森导演）的原著作品《刽子手》（The Executioners）。1962年，约翰·麦唐纳被美国侦探作家协会（MWA）授予最高荣誉——大师奖。1980年，他又赢得美国图书奖（American Book Award）。斯蒂芬·金（Stephen King）形容约翰·麦唐纳为“我们这个时代的伟大艺术家和迷人的讲故事高手”。

　　约翰·麦唐纳出生于美国宾夕法尼亚州沙龙，就读于美国宾夕法尼亚州沃顿商学院，因留级而中途退学，去了纽约找了份辛苦的工作。后又进入锡拉丘兹大学管理学院，在那里他遇见了多萝西·普伦蒂斯，他们在1937年结婚，第二年他从锡拉丘兹大学毕业。1939年，获得哈佛大学工商管理硕士学位。在大学里所掌握的有关于商业和经济方面的知识对于他今后描写商业欺诈行为起到了很大的作用。

　　1940年，麦唐纳进入了美军军械部服役，军衔是中尉。二次大战期间他曾被派往中缅因战区，在中国工作过，任职于的OSS（美军战略勤务室）。他的写作生涯开始的很偶然，1945年，当他还在部队服役的时候，他出于娱乐的目的写了一个短篇小说并寄给了自己的妻子，他的妻子在没有告诉他的情况下把这篇小说交给了“故事”（Story）杂志，居然就被采用了。1945年战争结束时他已是中校军衔，之后不久他就离开了部队，并花了大约四个月的时间写了总字数超过80万的许多短篇小说，他每天不停地写，一周工作7天，每天工作14个小时，为此他的体重掉了20磅。写到第五个月的时候，他的作品《硬币侦探》（Dime Detective）已40美元的价格卖给了“纸浆”杂志，从此开始了他的写作职业生涯。他陆续将自己的作品卖给“侦探”、“神秘”、“冒险”、“体育”、“西部”以及“科幻小说”杂志。适逢平装本小说的市场一下子繁荣起来，他借机成功地从短篇小说过渡到他的第一部长篇小说《黄铜蛋糕》（The Brass Cupcake），1950年由“福塞特金奖图书”出版。

　　1953年到1964年之间，麦唐纳专注于写作犯罪惊悚小说，其中有许多杰作。这些作品初版大多是平装本，有一些后来又再版了精装本。

　　1986年12月28日，约翰·麦唐纳在威斯康星州密尔沃基圣玛丽医院接受心脏搭桥手术时不幸去世，享年72岁。
